"Make the space work for you. Grab. Use. Return. REPEAT." -HT
1. What items do I use all the time?
What do you reach for the most often in your cabinet. The items that you reach for the most need to be at the front while the items less often used can be stored in the back. Some examples of most used items are all-purpose cleaner, disinfectant and dishwasher pods. And some examples of least used items are refills, polish and spot treatment.
2. Do I still use all of the items under my cabinet?
Often times under our kitchen sink is a place that acquires things that we no longer need or want, and things that we used once and didn't like. We sometimes hold onto cleaners, spot treatments and rags that we no longer use because we spent money on them and/or they just get lost under there. The truth is these things are just cluttering your space and taking up valuable real estate.
3. What do I use this cabinet for most often?
Do you use this cabinet every day? Do you grab dish towels? Do you grab dish washing pods? Do you store trash bags under the cabinet? Ask yourself the purpose of the cabinet and it will help you decide how to prioritize the items in the cabinet.
4. What items can I get rid of?
Ask yourself if you need everything that is under your kitchen sink. Taking every single thing out and looking at it one by one will help you decide. Make two piles keep and discard. Once you have discarded all of the things you no longer use, start prioritizing the things that you are keeping. Most used to least used.
5. Does this cabinet make me happy?
Just because it is under the kitchen sink does not mean that it cannot be attractive. I literally use my under the sink cabinet 5 to 10 times a day. Looking in the cabinet should not be stressful, it should be pleasing. Creating a cabinet that is visually appealing will promote our will to go into it, get what we need and get the work done. I even have a picture frame under my cabinet that has the word joy framed inside. Just a personal reminder to myself. Create a space that inspires you.
